Lenses (in beta)

Lenses are a new look at our data that let us create scores from groups of indicators across all three of our main categories: governance, freedom of expression and information, and privacy. Below we’ve created two Lenses from indicators related to algorithmic transparency and targeted advertising, so that we can illuminate companies’ lag in these two policy areas.

Performance Over Time

Here we show the total scores of companies year-over-year since their inclusion in the ranking. Note that between 2019 and 2020 we expanded our methodology to include standards around targeted advertising and algorithmic systems. The expansion resulted in overall decline in total score for many of the companies in 2020.
