Dr. Jan Rydzak

Executive Director

Jan joined RDR in 2019. Between 2023 and 2026, he led the digital rights and inclusion team at the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA), which extended to RDR’s operations when RDR joined WBA in 2024. Jan oversees strategy development and fundraising for RDR and associated tech accountability projects. He is a member of the Digital Democracy Network at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, which rallies researchers and activists from around the world working on technology and politics. In his previous role at RDR (2019-23), Jan led engagement with companies and investors, in addition to conducting research for the RDR Index. Before joining RDR, Jan was the Associate Director for Program at Stanford University’s Global Digital Policy Incubator (GDPi). He has also been a Google Policy Fellow with the Global Network Initiative (GNI) and a fellow with the European Commission in Poland. He completed his PhD at the University of Arizona, publishing widely cited research on the impact of internet shutdowns on protest. His editorials and research articles have appeared in Rest of World, Foreign Policy, Tech Policy Press, and the International Journal of Communication, among others. He also holds a master’s degree in Modern Languages from Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Poland, where he is originally from.
